Title: Maybe
Author: Sweetness (aaronlisa@gmail.com)
Rating: FR13
Pairing/Characters: Cassie, Diana, mention of Black John
Disclaimer: The Secret Circle belongs to LJ Smith and company.
Prompts:
30_deathfics - #35 (skin)
Notes: Set post-trilogy.
Summary: Diana realizes that she made a mistake when she ignored Cassie’s fears.
As Diana touched Cassie’s cold white skin, all of her fears were confirmed. She knew in an instant that she had been wrong to discredit Cassie’s fear that Black John was trying to rise from the dead again. Diana realized that she had forgotten what Cassie’s grandmother’s last words had been; that she had told her granddaughter that their family had the clearest sight.
She hadn’t wanted to believe Cassie when she had come to her and told her about the nightmares. Diana’s hand moved from the still form of her friend to rest on her stomach as she cried in shame and sorrow.
If she had listened to Cassie instead of being so wrapped up in her pregnancy, then maybe Cassie wouldn’t have felt the need to take her own life in an attempt to cut all of Black John’s remaining ties to the world. A thousand maybes rang in Diana’s mind as she sunk to the floor in horror at what her friend had done.
Diana didn’t think she had the strength to go on at that moment or to even face the others with the weight of her shame and grief mixed together. She blamed herself for not listening to her friend when Cassie had needed her most.
