2x5obsessions – an empty room full of sound
Notes: Future!fic.
Summary: The ghosts of the past haunt Harry.
As Harry entered the library at Grimmauld Place, he was struck by how the empty room seemed as if it was full of sound. He fancied that he could hear the twin’s whispering in the corner as they cooked up some new form of mischief. If he closed his eyes, he could hear Snape and Dumbledore in front of the fireplace, their muted words full of urgency. The sound of Tonks and Remus curled up in the chair together as Remus recited some love poem that made her glow in the dim light from the fireplace. And on the couch he could hear the banter as his youthful self argued with Ron over some Quidditch statistic amidst Hermione’s impatient sighs.
He opened his eyes and found the room was empty and silent. So much had changed over the years since the final battle with the Dark Lord. So many of the Order hadn’t survived the war, yet he still haunted the halls of Grimmauld Place. He felt as if he was doomed to never know a moment’s peace.
“Harry! There you are,” Hermione exclaimed as she wrapped her arms around his waist.
“Hello love,” Harry replied as he felt his spirits rise.
”Well come on, the train will be arriving shortly and we need to pick up the boys.”
Harry smiled in anticipation at seeing his sons again. He knew that they would breath life back into the home that had once been the headquarters of the Order. He surveyed the library one last time, and he could almost see the ghosts of the past smiling indulgently at him.
